The KT Trailer Used by Josh Coppins’ Yamaha Race Team

Updated: Mar 3, 2023

At KT Trailers, sometimes our job seems too good to be true – like when we got the chance to

sponsor the Altherm JCR Yamaha race team managed by NZ motocross legend Josh Coppins.

Josh recently tracked us down in Tauranga so we could custom-build his team a superior enclosed

trailer. Here’s a little bit about what went into manufacturing a trailer for NZ’s leading motocross

team.

But first, a little bit about John Coppins Racing

In case you don’t know, Josh Coppins is a champion NZ motocross rider who won an impressive

number

of races in Europe, Australia and NZ. He retired in 2013 and now Josh is the team manager of

the Altherm JCR Yamaha, which is quickly becoming one of the top motocross race teams in NZ and

abroad.

Trailer needs for professional motocross

If you’re into motocross – or indeed any motorsport – you know that having a good quality trailer is an essential part of the sport. You need a trailer to transport your bike (or go kart, or race car) to events safely and securely.

But there’s more to trailers, especially when it comes to professional

motorsport. There’s all the extra gear and tools, there’s the issue of weather, and the need to keep the bike out of sight and secure when you’re not racing. You want a custom trailer that will last a long time, and one that you can always rely on. In other words, you want a damn good custom-made trailer, and if it’s NZ-made, all the better.

The Altherm JCR Yamaha trailer

As motocross enthusiasts, the Tauranga-based team at KT Trailers was all too keen to work with Josh

Coppins and ensure his team had the best of the best when it came to their trailer.

We listened to his brief, chatted about the specific needs of a professional motocross race team, then

got to work designing a trailer that would exceed all expectations.

Here’s some of the features of the custom-built trailer:

•Plenty of space for three motorbikes

• Hot dip galvanised chassis for durability

• Lots of shelving – a motocross team can never have too much shelving

• Lift up rear and side door for extra protection from the elements

• A custom made spare wheel holder to carry spare wheels

• A bench for the mechanic’s tools.

• Three recessed flip up wheel chocks to hold the bikes

At KT Trailers in Tauranga, we are stoked to support and sponsor Josh Coppins, and we can’t wait to

keep watching his team go from strength to strength.
